Check often for updated Field Day information. If you'd like to volunteer your equipment or sign up for an operating period, see the form below.
The objective of Field Day, to quote the ARRL, is "to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and in doing so to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. A premium is placed on developing skills to meet the challenges of emergency preparedness as well as to acquaint the general public with the capabilities of Amateur Radio." Field Day is a prime opportunity for all of us as METERS members and emergency communicators to practice what we train for at our meetings and on our nets. Our location at Lakeshore Park will also give us greater public exposure, and we really want every METERS member to participate!
If you would like additional information about the contest rules, you can find the complete Field Day package here. We'll be set up in such a way to ensure compliance with the rules (which can sometimes be a little tricky!). In the form below, we ask if you are willing to bring your radio to Field Day. It could be that we will have more radios volunteered than we can use because of the way the rules are set up, so we may not be able to use a particular radio. (In brief, we can only transmit one signal per band at a time, and we have to take into account antenna availability and spacing, too.) The purpose of the sign-up form is to gather as much information about participants and equipment as we can in advance, so that we can then organize equipment, operators, and times and post that information for you.
We will be operating entirely on emergency power - including any computers that we may use for logging and/or digital modes - so we need all the batteries and generators we can get! If you can supply power, PLEASE let us know!! It's also highly possible that we have left out some crucial items in this form, so please use the Comments box for any other items we may need.
If you have additional questions before filling out the form, please e-mail FieldDay (at) metersinc (dot) org. Thanks!
